Extension Guide

Tailor your CV in one click — right from any job listing page. Here's everything you need to get started.

Download the Extension

Chrome / Edge / Brave — any Chromium-based browser works.

Download CVCater Extension (.zip)

What It Does

The CVCater browser extension sits quietly in your toolbar until you land on a job listing. When it detects a supported job page, it automatically extracts the job title, company, and description — no copy-pasting required.

From the popup you can:

  • Tailor your CV — generates a role-specific version of your baseline CV using AI, matched to the detected job description.
  • Save the job — adds it to your Application Tracker on the dashboard so you can manage your pipeline.
  • Mark as Applied — instantly updates the job status in your tracker.
  • Copy the output — one click copies the tailored CV text to your clipboard, ready to paste.

Installation

The extension isn't on the Chrome Web Store yet — you'll load it manually in developer mode. It only takes a minute:

  1. Download the extension using the button above. You'll get a cvcater-extension.zip file.
  2. Extract the zip file to a folder on your computer (e.g. Desktop/cvcater-extension).
  3. Open your browser and go to chrome://extensions (or edge://extensions for Edge).
  4. Turn on Developer mode — the toggle is in the top-right corner.
  5. Click "Load unpacked" and select the extracted folder.
  6. The CVCater icon will appear in your toolbar. Pin it for easy access (click the puzzle-piece icon → pin CVCater).

Signing In

Open the extension popup by clicking the CVCater icon in your toolbar. You have two ways to connect your account:

  • Email & Password — enter the same credentials you use on cvcater.com.
  • Import from open tab — if you're already signed in to CVCater in a browser tab, click "Import from open CVCater tab" to sync your session automatically.

Once signed in, the popup will show your account email, subscription plan, and gem balance.

Using the Extension

1. Browse job listings

Navigate to any job listing on a supported job board. The extension detects the page automatically and extracts the job details.

2. Open the popup

Click the CVCater icon. You'll see the detected job title and company name in the popup. If no job is detected, the popup will let you know you're not on a supported page.

3. Tailor your CV

Click "Tailor CV for this Job". The extension sends the job description to CVCater's AI, which produces a tailored version of your baseline CV. This uses 1 gem. The output appears in a text area in the popup — click "Copy to Clipboard" to grab it.

4. Save or mark applied

Use "Save Job" to add the listing to your Application Tracker, or "Mark Applied" to save it and set the status to Applied straight away. Both sync to your dashboard instantly.

Supported Job Boards

The extension automatically detects job listings on the following sites:

Reedreed.co.uk
Indeed (UK & US)indeed.com / indeed.co.uk
LinkedInlinkedin.com
Totaljobstotaljobs.com
CWJobscwjobs.co.uk
Glassdoor (UK & US)glassdoor.com / glassdoor.co.uk
Monster (UK & US)monster.com / monster.co.uk
CV-Librarycv-library.co.uk
Adzunaadzuna.co.uk
Jobsitejobsite.co.uk

More job boards are added regularly. If you'd like to request support for a specific site, let us know.

Dashboard Sync

Everything you do in the extension syncs to your CVCater dashboard in real time:

  • Saved jobs appear in your Application Tracker under the Pipeline tab.
  • Tailored CVs are saved to your generation history, so you can revisit and download them later.
  • Your baseline CV from the CV Vault is used automatically — no need to re-upload it in the extension.
  • Gem balance updates instantly across the extension and dashboard.

Troubleshooting

"No job detected" on a supported site

Make sure you're on the individual job listing page, not a search results page. The URL should contain a specific job ID. Try refreshing the page and reopening the popup.

Tailoring fails or times out

Check that you have gems remaining (visible in the popup header). If you're on a free plan, you get 3 gems to start. Upgrade to a paid plan for more. Also ensure you have a baseline CV saved in your CV Vault.

Extension disappeared from toolbar

Go to chrome://extensions, make sure CVCater is enabled, then click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin it again.
